Nest camera owners were left frustrated on Monday as their cameras stopped working properly for over 16 hours.
As 9To5Google reports, the problems started at around 12pm PT on Monday when owners of Nest devices, including the indoor and outdoor cameras, smart display, and doorbell, found their devices were no longer functioning correctly.
Live video couldn't be watched and video recording wasn't possible, meaning video history wasn't being collected.
By 4pm PT some users had their access restored, but problems remained into the night.
It wasn't until 4am PT yesterday morning that Google finally restored full functionality.
In a post on the Google Nest Help forum, Rishi Chandra, Google Nest vice president explained what happened, "We’re still doing some investigating, but at this point I can share that the issue was due to a scheduled storage server software update that didn’t go as intended.
Whenever something like this occurs, we carefully look across our systems to figure out how to make sure it doesn’t happen again."
Chandra also apologizes for the frustration caused and promised to share more updates in the coming days.
Ultimately, this was a software update that went very wrong and Nest owners suffered because of it.
The worst hit will be anyone who experienced a security incident at home on Monday and were relying on their Nest camera to record it.

The worrying thing for Nest owners is, this isn't the first time such an outage has occurred.
Although it doesn't look to be on the same scale, a camera connectivity problem was also recorded back in December.
