Report: iPhone 12 Looks Like a Small iPad Pro

If you're not a fan of the iPhone 11 design, we have some potentially good news: the iPhone 12 is expected to look more like a small iPad Pro.

As Bloomberg reports, people familiar with Apple's plans have described how the iPhone 12 is set to look quite different from the iPhonee 11 models it will replace.

Apple is thought to have adopted the design of the latest iPad Pro for its new range of smartphones, which means handsets that look more like the iPhone 5, at least from the side and back.

If true, it means the iPhone 12 models will have flat, stainless steel edges and much sharper corners along with completely flat displays.

It makes for an overall cleaner, more box-like look, and one could argue a more professional-looking phone.

Apple is also thought to be introducing four models of iPhone 12 rather than the three iPhone 11 models.

There will be an iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, as well as two lower-end handsets to replace the existing iPhone 11.

What's unclear right now is whether the iPad Pro-like design will be limited to the high-end Pro and Pro Max models, or extend to the cheaper iPhone 12 models, too.

Anyone who isn't a fan of the notch at the top of iPhones will be glad to hear it's expected to be smaller on the iPhone 12, but still present.

We're also expecting all four models to be 5G phones, and that the Pro and Pro Max models will include the LIDAR system recently introduced with the iPad Pro refresh.

As to when the iPhone 12 will launch.

We're still expecting the new iPhone SE imminently, followed by the iPhone 12 around September as is typical.

However, Apple's engineers are expected to travel to China in May to finalize the design and the launch may end up being "multiple weeks later than normal" because of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously we'd heard reports that Apple was considering delaying the iPhone 12.

Bloomberg also believes that Apple is set to launch a smaller version of the Homepod smart speaker at some point this year.

Just as with the iPhone 12, though, launch and availability will likely be determined by how the pandemic progresses through 2020.
