Honor Takes V30, 9X Pro Smartphones and MagicBook Laptops Global

Mobile World Congress was canceled, but that didn't stop China-based Honor (a subsidiary of Huawei) from revealing a range of new products for the global market: the 9X Pro smartphone, the V30 Pro smartphone, and the MagicBook 14 and 15 laptops.

The V30 Pro, previously only available in China, is a 5G-compatible device that runs the Kirin 990 chipset.

It comes in 8GB RAM/128GB ROM or 8GB/256GB ROM configurations, with a 4,100mAh battery charged via USB-C.

In the phone’s 6.57-inch 2,400-by-1,080-pixel screen is a dual selfie camera with a 32MP f/2.0 main lens and a 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens.

For the main camera, the V30 Pro has a three-lens array: a 40MP f/1.6 main lens, a 12MP f/2.2 wide-angle, and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto.

It will be launching in Russia and "more countries" in March, but pricing was not announced.

The Honor 9X Pro, meanwhile, is a midrange device sporting a 6.59-inch 1080p screen, and a 16MP pop-up camera for a notch- or holepunch-less display.

On the back is a three-camera array: a 48MP f/1.8 main camera, an 8MP f/2.4 wide-angle lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 "depth assist" lens.

Inside, the 9X Pro, which will cost €249 and arrives in March, has Huawei’s Kirin 810 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage (which can be expanded up to 512GB with a microSD card).

There’s also a 4,000mAh battery—charged via USB-C—and a headphone jack, as well as a fingerprint scanner on the side for fast unlocking.

This device has been available in China since September, but this is the first time it’s been seen officially for outside markets.

Unfortunately, the 9X Pro and the V30 Pro will be Honor's first devices launched with Huawei Mobile Services rather than Google Mobile Services, which means they will suffers the same setbacks as Huawei’s Mate line.

MagicBook 14 and 15

Much like the smartphones, the MagicBook 14 and 15 are both available in China, but were shown at CES 2020 ahead of their planned global release.

Both laptops feature AMD’s Ryzen 5 3500U or Ryzen 7 3700U processors with either the Radeon RX Vega 10 or Vega 8 graphics, depending on which processor you choose.

Users get either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

For ports, both versions of the MagicBook have two USB-A ports and a USB-C port for data transfer and charging, and an HDMI connection for extending or enlarging your laptop screen.

Each of them also offer 1,920-by-1,080 screens and impressively high screen-to-body ratios by hiding the webcam in the keyboard in the same fashion as Huawei’s MateBook X Pro.

The MagicBook 14 and 15 will start at €599 and arrive in March for the 256GB storage versions; the 512GB versions will be available in April, but pricing hasn't been announced.

Honor also announced a pair of AirPod-esque wireless headphones with noise-cancellation called the Honor Magic Earbuds.

Little was said about these earbuds, and we look forward to putting them to the test in our labs, but we know they will be priced at €129 when they go on sale in March.
