You know the retailer for simple and reliable furniture, but IKEA introduced smart blinds last year.
It just wasn't an easy process to find them.
IKEA sold them in retail stores as an exclusive item, but with most U.S.-based locations closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, IKEA has decided to start selling the FYRTUR smart blinds online.
It's a regular roller blind at first glance; however, the FYRTUR taps into wireless connectivity through a dedicated remote or the IKEA Home Smart app.
Most users should consider the app as it can schedule the smart blinds to act automatically in the morning or at night.
Several digital assistants and their related platforms integrate with the FYRTUR, too.
IKEA confirmed its smart blinds are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Home.
You'll need the TRÅDFRI gateway for this feature, though.
IKEA might sell its smart blinds in other styles later on, but right now they're limited to blackout gray.
In terms of sizing, the retailer offers the FYRTUR in eight measurements.
Tighter windows can take advantage of the 23x75 3/4-inch unit while shoppers with large windows might consider the 47x76 3/4-inch unit.
Of course, a myriad of sizes in-between exist.
Just measure the window beforehand, and you'll know exactly which unit to purchase.

IKEA recently co-designed the Symfonisk Bookshelf and Lamp speakers with Sonos, and other basic smart home products preceded them as the start of a push into connected furniture.
Soon, IKEA could sell an entire portfolio of connected furniture for each and every room.
