Spotify Kids Ad-Free App Brings Family-Friendly Music to the US

Spotify is rolling out another way to keep children entertained during quarantine: The Spotify Kids stand-alone app invites young listeners to explore sing-alongs, soundtracks, and stories on their own or with their family.

Designed for little ones ages three and older, the ad-free program launched in beta last year.

At the time it was exclusive to Spotify Premium Family subscribers in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Mexico, New Zealand, Sweden, and the UK.

"Now, at a time when so many kids are home from school, we're bringing the experience to even more people as the app rolls out in the US, Canada, and France," a company blog post said.

"And we hope parents there will find it useful as well."

Download the Spotify Kids app to access more than 125 playlists hand-picked to ensure maximum family-friendly fun.

Create an account for your ankle-biter(s), choose what content they see, and let them pick their own colorful avatar.

"Kids consuming audio content, such as music and stories, isn't a new phenomenon—in fact, they love it," Alex Norström, Spotify's chief premium business officer, said when the platform launched in October.

"But most audio experiences were built with adults in mind—meaning they're not simple, easy, or fun for young kids to use."

Spotify Kids, meanwhile, provides a "playground of sound" just for children—a place where youngsters can "explore their favorite music and stories in a fun environment." Beyond specific content, the user experience also looks and feels different from the grown-up Spotify app; it "exudes a fun, familiar, playful, and bright atmosphere," according to Norström.

The North American iteration boasts 8,000-plus songs and counting, as well as additional audiobooks and narrations (including Disney Music Group Stories, fairy tales, classics, and short stories) and lullabies and calming sounds for a better bedtime.

Spotify is working to introduce more parental controls and customization.

The company also introduced a global playlist with songs to help kids learn general hygiene best practices, like how to wash their hands and properly cough and sneeze.

Relevant educational content on the app will continue to grow.
