Notchless Oppo Find X2, X2 Pro to Take on Samsung Galaxy S20

Oppo has launched the sequel to its notchless Find X smartphone, the Find X2, as well as a more powerful version called the Find X2 Pro.

Both models use a 120Hz 1440p OLED touch screen, matching the refresh rate found on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and outclassing the controversial 90Hz rate on the Pixel 4 XL. Oppo also added some new software features to its screen.

"Motion Clear" appears to be a form of motion smoothing, and HDR Video Enhancement, which the company claims will mean SDR content can be upgraded to HDR.

There’s a small holepunch in the top-left corner for a 32MP selfie camera.

Its inclusion does make the Find X2 series look like a step backwards in comparison to the headline-grabbing full screen on the original Find X.

On the back of the device is the camera, consisting of a tri-camera setup with a 13MP telephoto lens, a 48MP ultra wide, and a 48MP wide-angle lens.

The phone also has Oppo’s Ultra Night Mode 3.0 in order to assist in low-light conditions, as well as an Ultra Dark Mode, which the company claims will let the phone take daytime-like shots in a completely dark room.

Inside, the Find X2 Pro is running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and is 5G-compatible.

With regards to software, this phone will launch running Oppo’s ColorOS 7.1 on top of Android 10, which Oppo claims makes the phone faster and smoother to use than previous incarnations.

The phones sport a fingerprint unlock under the screen.

The included battery is 4,260mAh, which can apparently be charged to full capacity in under 40 minutes using a 65W charger.

The phone also has dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and is IP68 splash-, water-, and dust-resistant.

The regular Find X2, meanwhile, is cut-down version of its Pro sibling.

The key differences include a slightly different camera setup (13MP telephoto, 12MP ultrawide, and 48MP wide angle) and a slightly smaller battery, clocking at 4,200mAh.

It's also only IP54 resistant, so it’s slightly more vulnerable to dust than the Find X2 Pro and should not be submerged in water.

Although the devices will not reach the US—the market Oppo calls the most difficult in the world—it will be available across Europe.

The Find X2 Pro is priced at €1,199 ($1,340) and available from early May, while the Find X2 will be available at €999 ($1,115).
