Google’s Ambient Mode is on the OnePlus 3 and above, allowing the phones to better control music, smart lights, and other smart home devices.
Google Ambient Mode, which arrived on devices running Android 8.1+ last year, is a “proactive” form of the mobile OS that takes over an Android device when it’s plugged in, showing the most pertinent information—such as the time, upcoming events, and reminders—on a full-screen display without you needing to unlock your phone.
The feature can also turn the phone into a digital photo frame, cycling through images you have saved on your device, or as an interface for smart home devices.
In a forum post, a OnePlus staff member explained how to opt in to this new feature: OnePlus owners need to connect their device to the charger, click the pop-up notification, and follow the instructions on the phone to set it up.
For a more direct approach, go into the Google App Settings > Assistant > Devices (Phone) and turn it on.
While this feature is coming to OnePlus' newer devices, it is a staggered release, which means some OnePlus owners might have to wait for up to a week to get it.
