Realme Announces X50 Pro 5G Phone With Snapdragon 865 Processor

Realme, the lesser-known smartphone brand from Oppo and OnePlus’ parent BBK Electronics, has announced its latest 5G flagship.

The X50 Pro, a more powerful version of the X50, has 5G connectivity that will cover "all of the world’s mainstream 5G," Realme says, including the n1, n3, n41, n78, and n79 bands for "full" Dual-Mode 5G support.

It features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor as the Samsung Galaxy S20, up to 12GB of RAM, and a maximum of 256GB of storage.

The processor isn’t the only similarity between this device and Samsung’s range; the screen is a 6.44-inch Samsung OLED, with a 20:9 display ratio, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 1080p resolution that supports HDR10+.

In the top left of the device are two front-facing cameras—a 32MP f/2.5 main camera and an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens—while the back has a quad camera array that includes a 64MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a black and white lens for better portrait effects.

Inside is a 4,200mAh dual-cell battery, with a 65W charger in the box that the company claims can charge the device fully in 35 minutes (or 60 percent charge in 20 minutes) similar to the fast-charging capabilities of its sister brands such as Oppo.

The X50 Pro also has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support, but unfortunately lacks the headphone jack that made the company’s devices more useful than other flagships.

While it’s unlikely that the X50 Pro will come to the United States—the "most difficult market in the world"—it will be available in India, China, and Europe.

In Spain, where the phone is launching despite Mobile World Congress’ cancellation over the coronavirus, it will cost between €599 ($650) for a 8GB RAM/128GB ROM configuration, €669 ($725) for an 8GB RAM/256GB ROM configuration, and €749 ($812) for the top model—12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.  Even for the top model, that's nearly $200 less than the Samsung S20 and almost half the price of the S20 Ultra.

For other European countries, local prices will be announced in April when the phone will be officially available in two colors—"Moss Green" and "Rust Red."
