(Image: Asus) Asus is set to offer gamers a very fast new mobile monitor you'd be forgiven for thinking is a desktop display thanks to the inclusion of a foldable, tripod stand.
It's called the ROG Strix XG17AHP Portable Gaming Monitor, and it boasts a feature set that most mobile gamers would love to have on their main display, let alone a second screen.
The 17.3-inch IPS panel is Full HD and sports a flicker-free 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, 300 nits brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 100 percent sRGB color saturation.
The portable display includes a 7,800mAh lithium-polymer battery which can provide up to 3.5 hours of use when the monitor is running at 240Hz.
There's also a couple of 1W stereo speakers built-in complimented by an ESS Sabre HiFi DAC.
The most unusual, but also welcome new feature, is a foldable tripod stand.
This allows the XG17AHP to look just like a desktop display, but it's also height adjustable, meaning the second screen can be positioned to sit directly above your laptop's display.
As Tom's Hardware reports, pre-orders for the XG17AHP have just gone live, but the cost is quite high as you've probably already guest.
The full package, including the panel, a smart cover, the tripod stand, and a carrying bag costs $599.
There's also an XG17AHPE model, but it only includes the panel and smart cover for $499.
Spending the extra $100 for the bag and stand seems more than worth it if you're going to be gaming on-the-go a lot.
Asus says the panel is compatible with Windows 10, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux, but there's also the option to plug in a smartphone or tablet if you wish.
Recharging the battery is achieved via a USB 3.0 port, and the net weight of the monitor with the stand is 1.76kg.
Earlier this month, Lenovo announced its ThinkVision M14t mobile monitor which doubles as a drawing tablet.
It's only a 14-inch Full HD display and doesn't have any of the gaming features the XG17AHP boasts, but it only weighs 698 grams and costs $449.
