New Instagram Stickers Turn Food Photos, Stories Into Shoppable Posts

Just because you can't visit your favorite small businesses right now doesn't mean you can't continue supporting them: Instagram and Los Angeles-based ChowNow are making photos and Stories shoppable.

Partnered restaurants can add "Order Food" buttons to their social media profile or images, videos, and ephemeral posts, redirecting buyers to ChowNow to complete their purchase.

Followers can also re-share stickers on their own account to help spread the word.

"During this unprecedented pandemic, ChowNow has mobilized all its resources to help local restaurants survive and ultimately thrive, launching new products and services in record time," company CEO Chris Webb said in a statement.

"This Instagram feature is yet another valuable tool we're offering our restaurant partners—at no cost to the restaurants—to help them drive more revenue and boost order volume without suffering the outrageous commissions and fees imposed by other delivery apps."

Look for the new "Order Now" stickers—available now in North America and rolling out globally "in the coming weeks"—from your favorite local eateries.

LA's Jeremy Fox, owner of Birdie G's and Tallula's, praised the new function, explaining that by "seamlessly linking" to Instagram, "we're able to promote all the new things we're offering while ensuring that more dollars go directly back to our restaurants and beloved staff."

The social network is also making it easier to discover gift cards, and promised additional fundraiser options are "coming soon." "For many businesses right now, every sale helps," Instagram wrote in a blog announcement.

"We'll continue to work on features that make it easier to support the small businesses you care about."
