Xbox Console Streaming Preview for Android Goes Global

Back in October, Microsoft started testing its Xbox Console Streaming feature for Android smartphones and tablets.

The preview was limited to Xbox Insiders located in the US or UK, but now it's available in 42 countries.

As Xbox Wire reports, Microsoft is ready to let Xbox Insiders around the world help test the Xbox Console Streaming service.

Once enabled, it allows owned and installed Xbox One games to be streamed over Wi-Fi to an Android phone or tablet.

The games supported also extends to include any offered through Xbox Game Pass.

Unlike xCloud, the only streaming happening here is from your console to your mobile device.

How well it works will ultimately depend on the quality of the wireless signal in your home.

The countries with access to the Xbox Console Streaming Preview now include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.

There are a few prerequisites to participating beyond living in a supported country.

The most important is being signed up as an Xbox Insider and enrolled in the Xbox One Update Preview ring.

You'll also need an Android 6.0 or higher device supporting Bluetooth 4.0, a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One wireless controller, and a Microsoft account with Xbox profile.

Streaming to your Android device requires the Xbox Game Streaming (Preview) app from the Google Play Store, and your network connection needs to achieve at least 4.75Mbps upstream, although 9Mbps is preferred.

Network latency must be below 125ms, but lower than 60ms ensures a great experience.

We don't yet know when Microsoft intends to roll out streaming to Android as a standard feature everyone with an Xbox can use.

However, expanding it globally is a very good sign that the system is working well and nearly ready for everyone.

I'm sure Microsoft is keen to get it finalized before the Xbox Series X launches in late 2020.
